Fairmont State Concludes SBA Business Recovery Center Operations, Substantial Funds Allocated to Local Flood Recovery

Fairmont State University has officially concluded its hosting of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Office of Disaster Recovery and Resilience (ODRR) Business Recovery Center (BRC) in the Falcon Center, which operated throughout the summer to assist residents, businesses, and nonprofits impacted by the 2025 Father's Day Flood.

During its time on campus, the BRC played a vital role in connecting North-Central West Virginians with federal disaster recovery resources. A substantial amount of SBA disaster loan funds were allocated to Marion County residents and businesses, helping families repair homes, small businesses rebuild operations, and nonprofits continue serving the community.

"Fairmont State University is proud to serve as a bedrock institution for the community, providing resources, support, and hope as West Virginians recovered from the flash flood," said President Mike Davis. "By hosting the SBA on campus, we were able to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our neighbors in their time of need. This is the very essence of what it means to be a regional public university."

The SBA's disaster loan program provided critical relief, including low-interest loans of up to $2 million for businesses, up to $500,000 for homeowners, and up to $100,000 for renters and homeowners to replace personal property. Many applicants also received additional mitigation funds to protect against future damage.

"From the first days of the WV Presidential Disaster Declaration, Fairmont State University welcomed SBA Public Affairs Specialists and Customer Service Representatives who served disaster survivors in Marion County," said SBA Public Affairs Specialist Lovelace Cook.

While the BRC on campus has closed, SBA assistance remains available through online, phone, and mail services. Those who still need support can visit sba.gov/disaster or call (800) 659-2955for guidance.

Fairmont State will continue to serve the region in instances such as this, living out its mission as a public university committed to serving the community through action and compassion.
