On January 19, 2026, the International Symposium on "Upholding Multilateralism and Promoting Global Governance", hosted by the Research Center on Building a Community with a Shared Future for Humanity and co-organized by the China National Association for International Studies, the Chinese Society of International Law, and the Society for Historians of Diplomacy of the People's Republic of China, was held at Lanting in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong attended the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote speech titled "Shouldering Responsibility of Our Times and Working Together for the Future". Ambassadors and diplomatic envoys from more than 20 countries across Asia, Africa, and Europe, along with many senior Chinese ambassadors and over a hundred renowned experts and scholars from China and abroad, attended the opening ceremony. Secretary of the CPC Committee of the China Foreign Affairs University Wang Shiting presided over the opening ceremony.
Vice Minister Sun Weidong pointed out that against the backdrop of accelerating changes unseen in a century, intertwined turbulence in the international situation, and increasingly prominent global challenges, all countries must uphold the authority of international rule of law, strengthen multilateral solidarity and cooperation, stay committed to openness and connectivity, pool the strength of the Global South, and actively promote the reform and improvement of global governance. Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy, China's diplomacy will prioritize the future of humanity and the well-being of the people. China will work to implement the four global initiatives, steadfastly defend the post-war international order, maintain international peace and security, promote the common development of all countries, and provide global public goods, so as to advance the building of a community with a shared future for humanity.
Following the opening ceremony, there were dialogues with ambassadors and experts, as well as parallel sub-forums.
In January 2025, with approval from the Communist Party of China Central Committee, the Research Center on Building a Community with a Shared Future for Humanity was officially established at the China Foreign Affairs University. This symposium aims to gather insights from all parties, build consensus on governance, and jointly explore effective approaches to improving global governance.
