South Carolina Man Sentenced for Threatening to Assassinate Congresswoman Nancy Mace

CHARLESTON, S.C., (July 21, 2025) - Today,Samuel Theodore Cain, was sentenced for threatening to assassinate Congresswoman Nancy Mace (R-SC). Cain was sentenced today to five years, suspended to 30 months of house arrest, followed by five years of probation, the maximum term of probation allowed under South Carolina law. A permanent restraining order to protect Rep. Mace will also be implemented as part of the sentencing.

"The fabric of our country is being torn from within," said Congresswoman Mace. "We are consumed by violent threats against the people who serve it, but nothing will stop me from fighting for South Carolina.."

Cain was arrested in May 2025 after posting publicly on X: "I'M GOING TO ASSASSINATE REPRESENTATIVE NANCY MACE WITH A GUN AND I'M BEING 100% DEAD ASS." He was denied bond three times as the threat continued to escalate. A jailhouse informant reported Cain confirmed he would kill Rep. Mace if given the opportunity, during a discussion about the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

As part of his sentence, Cain is subject to the following conditions:

• Must wear a GPS monitor for the duration of his sentence
• Must undergo a psychiatric evaluation with Greenville Mental Health and comply with any treatment plans, including taking all prescribed medications
• Must follow a strict curfew from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., except for verified and approved employment
• Must have absolutely no contact with Congresswoman Mace, her family, or her staff
• Is subject to a permanent restraining order barring any contact with Congresswoman Mace and her family
• Must not possess firearms or ammunition
• Cannot leave the state of South Carolina
• Must complete weekly drug screenings
• Must complete vocational rehabilitation
• Must obtain employment or provide proof of at least three job applications each week
• Must complete 100 hours of community service
• May not access social media or use the internet for any purpose other than employment

The judge made clear: violating any condition of the sentence would result in Cain's immediate return to jail.
