DENVER - Today, the Colorado Tourism Office (CTO), a division of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT), announced three new participants for the Accessible Travel Program. The Accessible Travel Program advances accessible tourism in destinations across Colorado in partnership with Wheel the World, a travel platform specializing in accessible tourism.
"Colorado communities are continuing to demonstrate how travel can be inclusive when accessibility is purposefully integrated into every journey. These participating communities are leading the way, proving that in our Colorado for all, everyone deserves the opportunity to experience the wonder and adventure that Colorado has to offer," said Lieutenant Governor Dianne Primavera.
In 2025, 22% of travel parties that visited Colorado included an individual that required accessibility service, which is over 25% higher than the industry norm. Through the Accessible Travel Program, selected destinations receive on-site accessibility assessments, specialized training for hospitality professionals, and marketing support to promote Accessibility Verified destinations and sites on Wheel the World's platform and colorado.com.
"Through innovation and inclusivity, the Accessible Travel Program empowers destinations across our state to thrive while building a stronger, more resilient tourism economy. This work ensures Colorado remains a welcoming and premier destination for all," said Eve Lieberman, OEDIT Executive Director.
The CTO and Wheel the World will work closely with each selected destination to implement the program and advance ongoing accessibility efforts. The initiative grew out of the groundbreaking Colorado Destination Stewardship Strategic Plan, a 10-year plan developed with input from more than 1,000 stakeholders statewide to advance responsible and inclusive tourism.
The 2026 Accessible Travel Program participants include:
"The Accessible Travel Program is helping Colorado communities remove barriers and welcome more travelers," said CTO Director Timothy Wolfe. "Through our longstanding partnership with Wheel the World, we're empowering destinations to create accessible experiences, giving travelers greater confidence to explore Colorado while strengthening local tourism economies."
Last year, Snowmass Tourism and Aspen Chamber Resort Association, Town of Mountain Village, Visit Durango and Visit Estes Park completed the Accessible Travel Program. Through this initiative and growth outside the program, Colorado now has 10 destinations and over 270 sites that have achieved Accessibility Verified status encompassing attractions, accommodations, restaurants, retail, trails, guide services, and gondolas.
