Background
This week, Cassidy honored veterans and their families in Slidell during the community's annual Veterans Appreciation Reception to thank them for defending America's freedom.
Last month, the U.S. Senate passed Cassidy's Gold Star and Surviving Spouse Career Services Act to increase access to job counseling services for spouses of members of the Armed Forces who died while on active duty - "surviving spouses" - through the Disabled Veterans Outreach Program.
Recently, Cassidy convened a field hearing in New Orleans titled "Breaking Barriers: Improving Veterans' Mental Health in Louisiana, where he examined how mental health care services are functioning for veterans in Louisiana, and where they can be improved.
