The rulebook that guides Tampa's development is being updated and members of the public are encouraged to provide their feedback on the first of three installments that is ready for review.

Tampa's Land Development Code has not undergone a significant update since 1984. In its entirety, it is approximately 1,400 pages long and arguably not well organized for those who are not familiar with it or use it seldomly.

As part of its continued effort to improve its public services and customer experience, in 2025 the City of Tampa's Development and Growth Management Department hired Clarion Associates to organize the code in a way that makes it easier to navigate and understand. Additionally, the code needs modernization - for example, adding terms like "pickleball courts" and "doggy daycare" that did not exist when the code was written.

The code update, known as Tampa Forward, is a two year process divided into three installments. The first installment is ready for review and public feedback. City officials will provide an overview and answer questions at a public meeting scheduled for Monday, March 2, from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at City Center at Hanna Avenue. Those who wish to attend virtually must register before the meeting.
