WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) released the following statement honoring Labor Day.
"Today we honor American workers - the people who build our country and keep it running.
"I grew up in a union home. My father was a proud IBEW lineman, and his union wages helped me go to school, helped our family afford a home, and provided for my parents in their retirement. These are opportunities that unions have spent decades fighting for, and they are opportunities that every single American deserves.
"Unions are also vital to supporting a thriving New Mexico. Hardworking union workers are building new manufacturing facilities, transmission lines, and clean energy infrastructure - supporting our economy, electrifying our homes, and helping us grow.
"As we celebrate Labor Day this year, I remain committed to fighting for union families, creating more union jobs, and protecting the opportunities union members like my father fought so hard for to achieve the American Dream."
