Today 6/19, we commemorate #Juneteenth, the day when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas learned of their freedom more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
Juneteenth reminds us that freedom delayed is freedom denied, and that the struggle for justice did not end in 1865. As we celebrate liberation, we also recommit ourselves to the ongoing fight for voting rights, economic justice, educational equity, and equal protection under the law.
At National Action Network, we honor the sacrifices of those who came before us by continuing the work that remains ahead. Until justice is fully realized, our mission continues.
Today we celebrate our history, honor our ancestors, and renew our commitment to building a more just and equitable America for all.
Happy Juneteenth
