The Montgomery City Council voted unanimously Tuesday regarding the qualifications of the District 3 council seat and approved a resolution establishing dates for a special election to fill the vacancy.
Following its determination, the Council approved a resolution setting the timeline for a special election to allow District 3 residents to select their next representative.
"The Council's action today ensures that the citizens of District 3 will have the opportunity to select their next representative through a fair and transparent election process," said Council President CC Calhoun. "We encourage interested candidates to qualify and ask all eligible voters to participate in the election."
Candidate qualifying will begin June 30, 2026, and remain open through July 14, 2026, at 5 p.m.
The special election will be held on September 1, 2026. If no candidate receives the required number of votes, a runoff election will be held on October 13, 2026.
Residents interested in seeking the District 3 seat are encouraged to contact the City Clerk's Office for information regarding candidate qualification requirements and election procedures.
