Central Division Officers arrest man after tossing a firearm: C25-241525

On October 10, 2025, around 9:15 a.m. officers from the Central District were proactively patrolling the Spence neighbourhood when they observed a man enter and exit an apartment in the 400 block of Sherbrook Street. The block is known to involve criminal activity and police patrol the area as part of a community safety strategy.

As the man exited the building he quickly tossed a larger item behind him and tried to evade police. Police believed the item was a firearm and took the man into custody

The discarded item - a sawed-off shotgun was recovered, along with ammunition and 2 grams of fentanyl (estimated street value of $300) located on the suspect.

Dominic William WAVEY (23), was charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  • Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
  • Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon, Firearm Part or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x 2
  • Possession of Scheduled Substance - Fentanyl
  • 2 tickets (Trespass Act & Highway Traffic Act)

He was detained in custody.
