Italy and France organise International Meeting on Addiction Prevention and Recovery

Italy and France, co-founders of the European Coalition Against Drugs (ECAD), which has 35 signatory nations, are jointly organising an International Meeting on Addiction Prevention and Recovery, to be held at the San Patrignano therapeutic community, near Rimini, on 23 October 2026.

During the working sessions, ministers, authorities, representatives from European and international organisations and high-level experts will discuss the sharing of best practices to strengthen prevention, treatment, recovery and social reintegration policies, with a particular focus on the most vulnerable and the youngest.

Organised with the involvement of several ministries, coordinated by Undersecretary of State to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers Alfredo Mantovano, the meeting will culminate in the adoption of a final document which will outline the Coalition's guidelines and operational commitments for the coming years, implementing the goals set during its second meeting in Yerevan.

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, and the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, have sent joint invitation letters to the Heads of State and Government of the Coalition and to its partners, as well as to the relevant European institutions, for a total of 47 delegations invited.

The choice of San Patrignano aims to use a real-world, everyday example to illustrate a leading model for addiction recovery and social reintegration: an example of the policies the Coalition intends to foster, with a view to strengthening the response to a challenge that requires responsibility and cooperation.
