Attorney General's Office Announces Medicaid Fraud Charges

The Attorney General's Office today announced two recent arraignments as part of the National Health Care Fraud Takedown, a coordinated effort by Medicaid Fraud Control Units to address fraud and protect federal and state health care programs.

Today, June 23, 2026, Yvonne Wescom, 35, of Newport, Vermont, was arraigned on three counts of felony Medicaid Fraud.

The State alleges that between May of 2025 and January of 2026, Ms. Wescom submitted false timesheets for personal care services she claimed had been provided to a Medicaid recipient. The Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud and Residential Abuse Unit (MFRAU) reviewed billing records and other data and determined that Ms. Wescom had defrauded Vermont Medicaid of over $15,000 in public health care funds.

Ms. Wescom pleaded not guilty at the arraignment in Vermont Superior Court, Orleans Criminal Division. The Court, Judge Rory Thibault presiding, ordered Ms. Wescom to report to Vermont State Police for booking and fingerprinting.

Last week, Darci Sanderson, 38, of Brattleboro, Vermont, was arraigned on one count of felony Medicaid Fraud.

MFRAU investigated the matter and alleges that Ms. Sanderson and a co-defendant submitted false timesheets for services they claimed to have provided to another individual. The submission of these false timesheets resulted in payment for services that were not provided, defrauding Vermont Medicaid of approximately $24,000.

Ms. Sanderson pleaded not guilty at her arraignment on June 16, 2026 in Vermont Superior Court, Windsor Criminal Division. The Court, Judge Elizabeth Mann presiding, ordered Ms. Sanderson released on conditions.

Ms. Sanderson's co-defendant is expected to be arraigned later this month.

If you suspect someone is being or has been neglected or abused, contact local law enforcement immediately. Neglect and abuse may also be reported to Adult Protective Services by calling 800-564-1612. If you suspect Medicaid fraud, please submit a report using MFRAU's online reporting form .

The Attorney General's Office emphasizes that individuals charged with a crime are legally presumed innocent until their guilt is proven beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

The Medicaid Fraud and Residential Abuse Unit receives 75 percent of its funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services under a grant award totaling $1,497,780 for Federal fiscal year FY 2026. The remaining 25 percent, totaling $499,260 for FY 2026, is funded by the State of Vermont.
