Throughout this Congress, Chair Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa's 99 counties.
RED OAK, Iowa - U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Chair of the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee, today announced her Small Business of the Week: Jones Dairy of Dickinson County. Throughout the 119th Congress, Chair Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa's 99 counties.
"For four generations, Jones Dairy has been a legen-dairy farming operation - milking cows and also cultivating the next generation of Iowa farmers," said Chair Ernst. "What began on 160 acres of rented farmland has moo-ved mountains to become a 1,200-acre dairy farm, churning out over 4.3 million gallons of milk annually that are enjoyed in different forms by families across the Midwest."
In 1903, Minor Jones and his wife Emma rented 160 acres of farmland in Milford, Iowa and founded Jones Dairy. After thirty years of hard work, the couple purchased the land where Jones Dairy remains today. Their son James and his wife took over the business and raised their five children on the farm. In 1982, James' youngest son, Patrick, became the third-generation owner. Today, Patrick manages the farm with his wife and children. Jones Dairy has over 1,800 cows with a state-of-the-art viewing area to teach students about the important connection between farms and food. Jones Dairy will celebrate 122 years in Iowa this year.
Stay tuned as Chair Ernst recognizes more Iowa small businesses across the state with her Small Business of the Week award.
