The Marion County Office of the County Engineer is planning median modifications at the intersection of County Road 484 and Southwest 29th Avenue Road. These modifications will help reduce crashes at the intersection until a traffic signal is installed at a later date.
What modifications are being made?
We are converting from a full access median opening where all turning movements into and out of SW 29th Avenue Road is allowed to a directional left in median opening. The directional left in median opening will allow left turns onto SW 29th Avenue Road but prohibit southbound left turns from exiting SW 29th Avenue Road.
How did we come about this decision?
After receiving complaints about the safety of the intersection, the County reviewed the crash history. The crash history revealed significant left turn and angle crashes that could be correctable by converting the median opening from a full access to directional left in. The County reviewed a full five-year crash history.
Will these modifications be permanent?
No. These modifications are being made on an interim basis. A traffic signal will be constructed at this location in the future. Nearby development is committed to funding and constructing a signal via an agreement with the County. A specific timeframe has not been established for the traffic signal construction.
How much will the conversion cost?
The conversion will cost approximately $30,000 utilizing in-house County staff.
