Overnight closures on I-57 at Illinois 54 interchange this week

The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced upcoming overnight closures on I-57 at the Illinois 54 interchange starting Tuesday, Dec. 16 (weather permitting).

I-57 will be closed from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. for three consecutive nights so crews can safely demolish part of the Illinois 54 bridge deck. Traffic will be detoured using the Illinois 54 ramps.

Illinois 54 will remain one lane in each direction, with flaggers directing traffic.

This work is part of a $5 million project to replace the Illinois 54 bridge deck, expected to wrap up by late 2026.

Expect delays, plan extra travel time, and consider alternate routes when possible.
