Washington, DC - President Donald J. Trump has designated Amy Shuart Chair of the Social Security Advisory Board. Shuart replaces Bob Joondeph, who was designated Chair by President Joe Biden in July 2021.
Upon her designation as Chair, Shuart said:
"I would like to thank President Trump for this honor. I look forward to leading the Board and its bipartisan work to assist Commissioner Bisignano, Congress, and the Administration in their efforts to strengthen Social Security programs and ensure the Social Security Administration provides the service the American people deserve."
Since being appointed to the Board by the Speaker of the House in October 2022, Shuart has brought a deep expertise in Social Security policy, programs, and administration, along with a collaborative mindset.
"I congratulate Amy Shuart on her appointment as Chair of the Social Security Advisory Board," said Social Security Administration Commissioner Frank J. Bisignano. "I look forward to working closely with Amy and the Board in furtherance of our goal to protect and preserve Social Security."
Shuart has spent nearly 20 years in policy roles, including as Staff Director of the Social Security Subcommittee of the Committee on Ways and Means, and currently is the Vice President of Technology & Innovation at Business Roundtable. She began her career as a Presidential Management Fellow at the Social Security Administration in the Office of Retirement Policy. Shuart holds two Bachelor of Arts degrees from Virginia Tech and a Master of Public Affairs from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas. She is the youngest Chair in the history of the Board.
