DNC Statement on Reverend Jesse Jackson Arrow

Today, DNC Chair Ken Martin joined DNC Vice Chairs Reyna Walters-Morgan, Malcolm Kenyatta, and Congresswoman Joyce Beatty, as well as DNC Black Caucus Chair Virgie M. Rollins, in releasing the following statement after the passing of Reverend Jesse Jackson:

"Throughout his life, Rev. Jesse Jackson spoke forcefully and acted boldly as a trailblazing champion for justice, equality, and human dignity for all. As a civil rights leader and a presidential candidate in 1984 and 1988, Reverend Jackson has made so much history and opened so many doors for others.

"Today, we mourn his passing and honor his belief in the 'rainbow coalition' - one where Americans of all races, creeds, backgrounds, and religions are united for the common good. May we continue our work to make this belief and his life's work a reality, and never waver in our commitment to defend voting rights and civil rights from forces currently seeking to undermine them.

"Our thoughts are with Rev. Jackson's wife, Jacqueline, their children, and all Americans who were inspired by his message and saw themselves reflected in his powerful and inclusive vision for our country."
