RSU Professors Named RMERA Distinguished Paper Award Recipients

Dr. Lori O'Malley received the Distinguished Paper Award at the recent Rocky Mountain Educational Research Association (RMERA) Conference.

Two Rogers State University professors were co-selected as the recipients of the Distinguished Paper Award at the recent Rocky Mountain Educational Research Association (RMERA) Conference.

Held Friday, April 25, on RSU's Claremore campus, the 51st annual conference offered an opportunity for faculty and students to showcase quality educational research and to network with professionals and students in the field of arts and sciences education.

Dr. Tom Gerard received the Distinguished Paper Award at the recent Rocky Mountain Educational Research Association (RMERA) Conference.

Co-recipients of the Distinguished Paper Award were Dr. Tom Gerard and Dr. Lori O'Malley.

Gerard's paper was "AI-enhanced gamification in higher education: Impact on student motivation and retention, a systematic review," and Dr. O'Malley 's paper was "Empowering students: Using reflective practice to improve pedagogy."

Both papers have been accepted for presentation at the 2026 American Educational Research Association (AERA) national conference in Los Angeles.

Gerard is an assistant professor in the Department of Business at RSU. O'Malley is an associate professor in RSU's Department of Psychology and Sociology as well as the incoming head for the Department.

RMERA's mission is to provide a non-threatening venue for discussions of professional research and development in education. The 2025 conference theme was "Research Reinvigorated."
