M-20/US-10 BR project advances with intersection work Sept. 14 in Midland

MT. PLEASANT, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will implement temporary detours to accommodate work at the eastbound US-10 Business Route (BR) (Lyon Road)/Washington Street intersection in the city of Midland.

This closure is being done as a part of a $27 million investment to improve M-20 and US-10 BR in the city of Midland. Phase one is expected to be completed by Nov. 15. Work on phase two will continue in 2027.

This intersection work was originally scheduled to be completed in 2027 as a part of phase two. However, this work is being done now to improve safety for workers and drivers, and to reduce project costs and the overall project impacts on motorists.

Traffic Restrictions:
The following detours will be in place for this phase of work:

• Eastbound US-10 BR will be closed and detoured via eastbound James Savage Road to Saginaw Road. Roundabout traffic will be detoured left at Saginaw Road while eastbound US-10 BR traffic will continue through Saginaw Road on James Savage Road and to re-enter eastbound US-10 BR.
• Westbound US-10 BR will be closed at Jefferson Avenue and detoured via southbound Jefferson Avenue to the Buttles/Lyon Street two-way roadway.
• Northbound Washington Street will be closed and detoured via Discovery Way to Saginaw Road.
• Southbound Washington Street traffic will be detoured via westbound US-10 BR, southbound Jefferson Avenue, eastbound US-10 BR and eastbound James Savage Road.

Currently, Indian Street and westbound US-10 BR (Patrick Road) is closed for rebuilding. Buttles Street and eastbound US-10 BR (Lyon Road) have been converted to accommodate two-way traffic.

At the end of the 2026 construction season, eastbound and westbound US-10 BR will return to the normal one-way configuration. When work resumes in 2027 and eastbound US-10 BR and Buttles Street are rebuilt, two-way traffic will be diverted to Indian Street and westbound US-10 BR.
