The GigaCT: Advancing Photon-Counting CT for Next-Generation Spectral Imaging

Varex Imaging, in collaboration with the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and Schleifring GmbH, has introduced the GigaCT, a next-generation photon-counting CT (PCCT) research system designed to overcome current limitations in spectral imaging. The prototype features a high-speed data architecture and advanced detector technology, enabling improved spatial resolution and material differentiation compared to conventional CT systems. Early results demonstrate strong potential for applications in clinical research areas such as cardiovascular imaging, oncology, and musculoskeletal studies. As development continues, GigaCT is expected to support new advances in spectral CT imaging, including multi-contrast detection and lower-dose scannin
