BLM approves protocol for grazing flexibilities, range improvements, and restoration to improve LCT habitat

RENO, Nevada - The Bureau of Land Management today announced the signing of the Finding of No Significant Impact of the environmental analysis for grazing authorization modifications, range improvements and stream restoration actions that would promote Lahontan Cutthroat Trout (LCT) habitat improvements.

The project area covers 38 grazing allotments, around 367 miles of occupied LCT stream habitat and about 583 acres of occupied LCT lake habitat across northern Nevada. This analysis includes all BLM Nevada-administered allotments with occupied LCT habitat within Nevada, including those administered by BLM Nevada that overlap with the state of Oregon.

"This environmental assessment of grazing flexibilities, range improvements, and restoration to improve Lahontan Cutthroat Trout habitat in Nevada has been developed to create a consistent and efficient approach to modifying grazing permits to allow for grazing management flexibility to improve LCT habitat," Kathryn Dyer, BLM Nevada Range Program Lead, said.

"BLM Nevada is excited to have this tool to move forwards with management changes that support continued livestock grazing while supporting Lahontan cutthroat trout habitat improvements," Dyer said.
