At Borger Refinery, that focus recently took shape through a strengthened partnership with the Texas Forest Service (TFS) improving wildfire response capabilities and donating critical resources and employee expertise to support faster, more effective wildfire response in the region.
Why it matters: Phillips 66 is committed to protecting the communities where we live and work, and time is critical in a wildfire response. Previously, the need to refill fire retardant in Amarillo delayed aircraft operations during fast-moving fire events. With local capabilities, Borger-area land and critical infrastructure can be better safeguarded.
The backdrop: The 2024 fire season, marked by the Windy Deuce Fire and the Smokehouse Creek Fire, highlighted the need for robust local partnerships. These fires burned more than 144,000 acres across four counties.
What's next: The Borger Refinery Emergency Response team will continue ongoing collaboration with TFS to support local fire departments during major fire events, training together and aligning on tactical practices to ensure readiness when it matters most. Protecting the Borger community reflects Phillips 66's dedication to showing up when it counts.
This work showcases Phillips 66 teams' approach to risk and preparedness across our global footprint. Guided by our values of safety, honor and commitment, we remain focused on readiness, partnership and showing up when it counts.
