OLYMPIA - Today Governor Bob Ferguson announced the appointment of Jehiel Baer to the position of Snohomish County Superior Court Judge. Baer's appointment, effective July 1, fills the position vacated by Judge Marybeth Dingledy.
Baer is a career litigator with more than 13 years of experience in both criminal and civil cases. He currently practices as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Western District of Washington, where he litigates criminal and civil asset forfeiture, money laundering and fraud matters, including the largest fraud and money laundering cases in the office's history. Baer is part of a national team focused on dismantling international criminal organizations that defraud Americans and recovering hundreds of millions of dollars in stolen funds for victims. Baer also serves on the executive team for PATHWAY, one of the first federal mental health pre-trial diversion courts in the country. Outside his primary duties, Baer teaches at the University of Washington School of Law and serves as a hearing officer with the Washington State Bar Association, where he adjudicates and mediates lawyer disciplinary proceedings.
"Jehiel Baer's commitment to our justice system combined with his high level of legal experience will serve Washingtonians well," Governor Ferguson said. "I'm confident he will provide steady leadership on the Snohomish County bench."
"I am truly grateful that Governor Ferguson has placed his trust in me to serve my community as a Superior Court Judge," Baer said. "I pledge to work diligently to earn that same trust from the people of Snohomish County by treating all parties with respect and dignity, regardless of their background, status, or role in the matter, and by devoting the attention and energy necessary to resolve each matter in accordance with governing law and in the interests of justice."
Prior to joining the U.S. Attorney's Office, Baer spent six years at the law firm of McNaul Ebel Nawrot & Helgren, PLLC in Seattle, handling complex commercial matters. He also served in the Excelsior Service Fellowship Program at the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, where he advised leadership and employees on ethics and national security regulations. Baer has volunteered at the American Bar Association Military Pro Bono Project, and has also served as a trustee and member of The William L. Dwyer American Inn of Court and as a member of the local rules committee of the M. Margaret McKeown Federal Bar Association.
Outside the courtroom, Baer is an Eagle Scout and enjoys exploring Washington on his motorcycle, as well as hiking, backpacking, camping and canoeing with his wife, kids and dog.
Baer earned his bachelor's degrees from the University of Maryland and his law degree from New York University School of Law.
