On April 7th, 2026, at approximately 8:45 a.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) received a call regarding a traffic crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck near the intersection of Corporate Drive and Mark Dabling Boulevard. Officers responded and determined the motorcycle rider had sustained severe injuries during the crash. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to the injuries he sustained during the crash. The driver of the pickup only sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene and released.
Due to the circumstances of the crash, the CSPD Major Crash Team (MCT) responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation. Currently, impairment is not suspected, however speed is believed to be a contributing factor for this crash.
On April 8th, 2026, the El Paso County Coroner's Office conducted an autopsy on the deceased motorcycle operator and identified him as 48-year-old Michael DeRivera.
No formal charges have been filed at this time, and this investigation remains open and ongoing.
This incident marks the 12th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2026. At this time last year, the city experienced six traffic fatalities. Over the past 365 days, there have been 59 traffic-related fatalities in Colorado Springs.
