Development Code Update Reaches Key Milestones with Refined Schedule

Two timeline adjustments give staff time to incorporate community feedback and complete Tribal review - with no change to the overall adoption schedule.

The City of Cathedral City is approaching key milestones in the Development Code Update, a project that will modernize the standards guiding how our community grows and develops for years to come. As the project advances, the City has made two adjustments to the previously anticipated schedule. Importantly, these refinements do not affect the overall project timeline or the anticipated adoption schedule.

The first adjustment concerns the revised final draft, which is now anticipated in mid-August 2026 rather than late July. This project generated a substantial volume of public and stakeholder comments during the public review period - a clear sign of strong community engagement. The additional time allows City staff and the project consultant to thoroughly review that feedback and incorporate it into the draft. All comments received have been posted to the project website.

The second adjustment involves the Planning Commission, which will hold the first of two public hearings on September 9, 2026 rather than August 19. This shift provides time for review by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians' Indian Planning Commission and Tribal Council, reflecting the City's continued commitment to meaningful coordination with the Tribe.

Residents are encouraged to stay involved as the project moves toward adoption. Comments and questions may be submitted at any time to [email protected] or through the project website at zonecathedralcity.gov.
