What day is America Recycles Day in Fort Worth?

At the Oct. 14 Fort Worth City Council work session, Environmental Services Director Cody Whittenburg, City staff and area partners celebrated ongoing recycling efforts and received a proclamation from Mayor Mattie Parker and the City Council declaring Nov. 15, 2025, as America Recycles Day in Fort Worth.

The proclamation underscores the vital role recycling plays in diverting waste, supporting the local economy and conserving resources for future generations. It highlights recycling as a cornerstone of responsible growth - helping divert waste away from landfills, reducing waste and transforming discarded materials into new products.

Milestone for Fort Worth recycling. The proclamation also recognized the essential contributions of recycling industry partners to Fort Worth's economy and regional sustainability efforts. A key example is WM's new Fort Worth Recycling Facility, scheduled to open Oct. 28. This state-of-the-art material recovery facility will expand the region's recycling infrastructure with advanced sorting and capture technology, supporting long-term sustainability goals. Whittenburg also highlighted the efforts of WM, Republic Services and other community partners in advancing Fort Worth's recycling initiatives.

Fort Worth joins a national movement. Originally launched as Texas Recycles Day in 1994, the initiative later grew into America Recycles Day in 1997 as a nationwide day of celebrating and encourages residents and communities to recycle more - and recycle right. On Nov. 15, Fort Worth joins cities across the country in celebrating the 28th annual America Recycles Day.

Residents are encouraged to take part in recycling education and community events throughout November and to learn how small, everyday actions contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable Fort Worth.
