BRIMFIELD - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that repairs to a damaged beam on the Illinois 78 bridge over Interstate 74, just east of the Knox County line, begin Oct. 19.
The work will reduce Illinois 78 over I-74 to one lane, with traffic controlled by temporary signals and daytime lane closures on westbound I-74 will also be necessary. Toward the end of the work, westbound I-74 nighttime lane closures will be needed to replace the damaged beam; motorists will be notified of the closure in advance by message boards. The entire project is expected to be completed in two weeks.
