Reno nurses to hold press conference about unjust termination and major announcement

RNs from St. Mary's Regional Medical Center to protest firing of union bargaining team member

Registered nurses at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nev., will hold a press conference on Friday, Feb. 6, outside their hospital to inform the press and public about Prime Healthcare management's unjust termination of a nurse who is a member of their union's bargaining team and will be making a major announcement. Nurses at St. Mary's are represented by National Nurses Organizing Committee/National Nurses United (NNOC/NNU), the country's largest nurses union.

After the employer violated an RN's medical privacy, they retaliated and terminated her on unfounded charges without a complete investigation. Nurses are protesting the termination of their colleague and will show Prime that such treatment will not be tolerated.

"We will not standby while Prime attempts to punish our co-workers for being part of our union," said Jamie Whitfield, RN in the cardiac catheterization laboratory. "Our union keeps us and our patients safe. We are demanding reinstatement."

NNOC/NNU represents 350 registered nurses at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center.
