I-39 work at Illinois 72 interchange in Ogle County begins Aug. 18

OGLE COUNTY - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that weather permitting, construction will begin on the Interstate 39 bridges crossing Illinois 72 and the CPKC Railroad in Ogle County on Tuesday, Aug. 18.

Work will repair the bridge deck and install a new surface. One lane will be closed in each direction on I-39 during the $3.2 million project, which is expected to be completed by the end of November. Also, there will be several single lane daytime closures on Illinois 72 to install a protective shield underneath the bridge deck.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area and be prepared for slow and stopped traffic. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices, and be alert for workers and equipment.

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Seven of Rebuild Illinois include $25.6 billion of improvements statewide to 24,498 lane miles of highway, 959 bridges and 1,475 additional safety improvements.
