BATON ROUGE, LA - Wednesday, September 24, 2025 - As part of the ongoingLighting up Baton Rouge initiative, the Office of Mayor-President Sid Edwards is pleased to announce significant progress in enhancing safety and livability through improved street lighting across East Baton Rouge Parish.
Entergy crews recently installed 407 LED street lamps in the Scotlandville area, replacing older, outdated high-pressure sodium (HPS) bulbs as part of an ongoing collaboration between the City-Parish, Together Baton Rouge, District 2 Councilman Anthony Kenney and District 3 Public Service Commissioner Davante Lewis.
In May, Entergy and the City-Parish installed 50 brighter, more energy-efficient LED lights on Plank Road between Airline Highway and Florida Boulevard as part of a MOVEBR project. Since then, upgrades have expanded to Sherwood Forest Boulevard, Goodwood Boulevard, and the Broadmoor subdivision
Downtown enhancements are also underway through a two-phase project coordinated with the Downtown Development District, furthering efforts to reduce crime, improve visibility, and create a more welcoming environment for residents, workers, and visitors.
"Lighting is one of the simplest yet most impactful ways to deter crime and encourage activity downtown," said Mayor-President Edwards. "Every improvement we make helps restore confidence in our neighborhoods and strengthens the quality of life for everyone in Baton Rouge."
These projects mark another milestone in fulfilling key campaign commitments and highlight the administration's focus on public safety, infrastructure, and neighborhood revitalization. Additional improvements are planned in the coming months with continued coordination between the City-Parish, Entergy, and community stakeholders.
