The Library celebrated the last day of Black History Month with a very special guest, Carl Winters aka the Kalimba King. As a young adult, Winters became acquainted with the kalimba, an ancient African musical instrument (also known as a thumb piano), via the musical group Earth, Wind & Fire. He was intrigued and wondered if he might be able to master this instrument. Seemingly simple, he soon realized that there was a lot more to it than he realized. Nonetheless, he kept with it through the decades and demonstrated its breadth of expression at the Library's program presentation. At the conclusion, people had a chance to experience playing the kalimba and received various handouts, including an instructional sheet on making one's own kalimba.
