Project Management Programs Earn PMI Global Accreditation

Wentworth Institute of Technology's Bachelor of Science in Project Management and Master of Science in Project Management have been awarded accreditation by the Global Accreditation Center for Project Management Education Programs (GAC), the accrediting body of the Project Management Institute (PMI).

The GAC Directors voted to confer the accreditation at their July 2026 meeting.

The accreditation runs through July 31, 2032, and covers both School of Management degrees. It is the first time in Wentworth's history that a program has earned PMI GAC accreditation.

Established in 2001, the GAC is an independent accrediting body for project, program, and portfolio management degrees at the bachelor's, postgraduate, and doctoral levels, and a member of the Association of Specialized and Professional Accreditors. More than 205 degree programs worldwide currently hold GAC accreditation.

Programs seeking accreditation undergo a review of their objectives and outcomes, faculty and student evaluations, on-campus and online resources, and evidence of continuous improvement, followed by a site visit from peer reviewers.

Students in both Wentworth programs will find benefits as graduates of GAC-accredited degree programs receive substantial credit toward the work experience requirement when applying for PMI certifications, including the Project Management Professional (PMP), the field's most widely recognized credential. Coursework in the accredited programs can also be applied toward the education contact hours required to sit for PMI certification exams, and toward the professional development units needed to maintain a credential once earned.

The benefit applies retroactively to the program's initial accreditation date. Students in GAC-accredited programs are also eligible for a PMI scholarship reserved for that group, and both Wentworth degrees will be listed in the GAC's public directory of accredited programs.

Wentworth's Bachelor of Science in Project Management is a flexible, part-time degree built for transfer students, working professionals, military service members, and first responders. Students can transfer up to 80 of the 128 required credits from previous coursework and professional experience and complete the degree in as little as three years, taking classes on campus or fully online.

The Master of Science in Project Management is offered in online and hybrid formats and can be completed in one year (under a full-time schedule) or 20 months part time. Coursework covers planning, execution, budgeting, risk, and team leadership, with a capstone project applying those skills to a real-world problem. Undergraduates in any Wentworth major may apply to the program, and seniors enrolled in 17 or fewer summer credits can take a graduate course at no additional cost.

Demand for the skill set continues to grow. PMI projects employers will need roughly 2.3 million new project professionals each year through 2030.
