The third Tuesday of September (Sept. 16 in 2025) is Information Technology Professionals Day. Please take time out of your busy schedules today to recognize the dedicated staff of Georgia College & State University's Information Technology Department. These professionals work diligently (often in the background) to enable our institution to achieve its mission and its goals.
What exactly does this group do for GCSU? What follows is really just a sampling …
Over this past year, the GCSU Information Technology team has:
IT personnel have played substantive roles in deploying software solutions like:
Under the leadership of the Security Systems Governance Committee, IT has onboarded a full-time Physical Security Systems Administrator and is leading the effort to consolidate, modernize and expand the campus' security monitoring, alerting and access control infrastructure.
In just the month of August of 2025 and using a combination of rule-based and manual interventions, GCSU IT blocked 340,000 malicious emails and intercepted malicious network traffic 789,256 times.
Finally, the team has successfully responded to at least a half dozen University System of Georgia-driven audits, mandated activities, and IT-related engagements in the last 12 months.
Many of our faculty, staff and students do not see the early mornings, late nights and weekends that these professionals invest into keeping this institution's information systems and technology infrastructure secure and in a reliable state. Please take a moment to thank this dedicated group of IT professionals for all that they do.
