U.S. uninsured rate increased between 2023 and 2024

The Census Bureau reported (https://www2.census.gov/library/publications/2025/demo/acsbr-024.pdf) that the uninsured rate increased nationally to 8.2% in 2024 from 7.9% in 2023 based on data from the American Community Survey. The report found that the uninsured rate for adults aged 19-64 increased in 17 states and Washington, D.C., while the uninsured rate for children under 19 increased in 19 states. The authors reported that the unwinding of the public health emergency may explain the increase in uninsured rates.
