City Projects

Avenue 3E, 32nd Street to 40th Street

A contractor working for the City is working on a median landscaping project on Avenue 3E from 32nd Street to 40th Street and on 32nd Street from Arizona Avenue to Avenue 3E. The inside lanes of Avenue 3E adjacent to the median will be closed, and left turns will be restricted except at intersections with a traffic signal. Work on 32nd Street will begin at a later date. The overall project is expected to conclude in mid-October.

Arizona Avenue, 17th Street to 24th Street

A contractor working for the City is replacing the water line on Arizona Avenue between 17th Street and 24th Street. Work will take place in several phases. Currently, Arizona Avenue is closed between 22nd Street and 24th Street until mid-August.

Avenue 5E, 37th Street to 30th Place

Work on a sanitary sewer line extension will prompt a closure of Avenue 5E to through traffic between 30th Place and 38th Street, with work to be in phases. Currently 5E is closed between 32nd Street and 34th Street through mid-August and between the north side of the intersection with 32nd Street to the south side of the intersection with 30th Place through October. Residential and business access will remain in place throughout the project.

28th Street and Avenue C

A contractor working for the City will reconstruct the intersection of Avenue C and 28th Street, resulting in a full closure of that intersection into mid-September. Southbound Avenue C traffic will detour at 26th Street and northbound traffic will detour at 32nd Street. Motorists should plan alternate routes.

1st Street at Gila Street

Contractor working for the City has completed the repair of a sanitary sewer line. Paving work will be taking place of 1st Street on the west side of its intersection with Gila Street. Work is anticipated to be completed by August 7.

Edenwood Estates pavement replacement

Beginning mid-August, a contractor working for the City will replace the pavement in the Edenwood Estates subdivision, which is southwest of 25th Street and Avenue B. The first phase of work will be the closure of Edgewood Drive from 25th Street through its south-end cul-de-sac, followed by single-block closures of Elmwood Drive, Fernwood Drive, Parkwood Drive, 26th Drive, 25th Place Greenwood Avenue, Olivewood Lane, Pinewood Lane, Oakwood Lane, and 27th Avenue from 24th Street to 25th Street. Estimated completion is in late December.

City Street Maintenance

City Street Maintenance operations for the week of August 11-17 will take place in the following areas.

Street Crack Seal

30th Street from Avenue 7E to Avenue 8E.

Street Grinding

Thomas White subdivision.

16th Street to 12th Street from 5th Avenue to Avenue A.

Street Asphalt Patching

Barkley Ranch, units 1-2.

Villa Cordova, units 1-4.

Concrete Sidewalk Repair

Villa Hermosa, unit 2.

La Mesa Manor, unit 2.

18th Street from Avenue C to 44th Avenue.

1st Avenue from 14th Street to 12th Street.

Other utility projects and encroachment permits

Smucker Park Basin project: Avenue A, Parkview to Westridge (Yuma County)

A contractor working for Yuma County is working on the Smucker Park flood control basin, which will at times affect Avenue A between Parkview Loop and 28th Street. The sidewalk on the west side of Avenue A is closed. Motorists on Avenue A should be aware of trucks entering and exiting the roadway on the north side of the park. Phases of work will include lane restrictions on Avenue A and a closure at Westridge. Message boards will be activated 72 hours prior to any such closure.

Maiden Lane, 1st Street to 2nd Street (Yuma County)

Construction staging for the Yuma County building has closed Maiden Lane between 1st Street and 2nd Street. Additionally, 2nd Street will be closed between Main and Maiden through August 22.

Fiber optic installations (Allo)

Communications line installations are taking place in areas designated for utility easements in numerous and various locations within the City limits and surrounding vicinity. Motorists are advised to watch for work zones in unexpected areas.

Avenue 4E, 36th Street to 38th Street (private contractor)

Through September, temporary traffic control measures will be placed on Avenue 4E between 36th Street and 38th Street to accommodate construction of a major warehouse project.

Avenue 4E, 32nd Street to 49th Street (Lumen)

Through August 16, communications line work will require a lane closure on Avenue 4E between 32nd Street and 40th Street.

Avenue A, 20th Place (SW Gas)

Southbound Avenue A will have a lane restriction at 20th Place for a two-day gas service installation project between now and August 8.

32nd Street, Catalina to 4th Avenue (Allo)

August 13-17, communications line installation will require a right-lane closure of westbound 32nd Street between Catalina Drive and 4th Avenue.

Avenue 3E, 32nd Street (CenturyLink)

Beginning August 7, CenturyLink crews will be accessing a manhole at the intersection of Avenue 3E and 32^nd Street. Work will require lane restrictions. Drivers are advised to follow traffic control. Work is anticipated to be completed by mid-December.
