Public survey seeks input on roads, drinking water, energy and other essential services by Oct. 30
Michiganders are encouraged to take a short online survey to help shape a new statewide guide explaining how essential infrastructure systems work, who maintains them and how decisions about improvements are made, according to the Michigan Infrastructure Council (MIC).
The MIC is developing the "Citizen's Guide to Infrastructure Systems" to help residents better understand the roads, drinking water, energy, internet and other services they rely on every day. The council is seeking public input to identify the infrastructure topics and questions residents want addressed in the guide, which is expected to be available in spring 2027.
"Infrastructure is part of almost everything we do each day, but many people don't know how these systems work or why they matter," said MIC Chair Palencia Mobley, P.E. "We want Michiganders to help shape this guide by sharing the questions they have and what matters most to them. Our goal is to make infrastructure easier to understand so people can ask questions, make informed choices, and have a voice in decisions that affect their communities."
The 11-question survey is available online and takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. Responses must be submitted by Oct. 30, 2026.
The survey asks residents which infrastructure issues matter most to them, how service disruptions affect their daily lives and how they currently receive information about infrastructure projects and service disruptions.
Public feedback will help the council prioritize information for the guide and present it in a clear, accessible format. The guide will explain how Michigan's infrastructure systems operate, how they are funded, who maintains them and what factors influence decisions about infrastructure projects.
