Mayor Walsh Appoints Sol Muñoz To Senior Public Information Officer

Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh announced the appointment of Sol Muñoz to Senior Public Information Officer in the City's Office of Communications. Muñoz will handle public policy communications, media relations, digital content development, and community outreach initiatives. Her responsibilities include developing and disseminating essential information about city activities, services, programs, projects, and goals to Syracuse residents and community partners.

In her previous role as Infrastructure Public Information Officer, Muñoz managed public information and communication initiatives for the Departments of Public Works, Engineering, Water, and Cityline. She created and disseminated strategic public communications to inform and engage residents, media outlets, and stakeholders regarding current and planned infrastructure projects. Her portfolio included major initiatives such as road reconstruction projects, the implementation of new trash and recycling cart systems, sidewalk rehabilitation programs, snow removal operations and safety protocols, and Interstate 81 construction coordination.

Prior to joining the City, Muñoz served as Community and Content Manager for Soul Excellence Publishing, where she developed and managed websites, events, marketing platforms, and community outreach programs. She also completed a marketing internship with the WISE Women's Business Center, supporting events and programming while creating social media content and promotional materials. In both roles, she provided operational support for organizational projects and client engagement initiatives.

Muñoz holds a Master of Science in Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprises from Syracuse University's Whitman School of Management and a Bachelor of Music with a Business Management Outside Field and Latin American Studies Minor from Ithaca College. She also earned an International Baccalaureate Bilingual Diploma in English and Spanish from Washington International School in Washington, D.C.
