On 26-28 April, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Kęstutis Budrys will pay a working visit to Brunei Darussalam to attend the 25th Ministerial Meeting of the European Union and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Foreign Ministers from all eleven ASEAN countries, the EU High Representative, Kaja Kallas, and representatives from member states are expected to attend the meeting. During the meeting, the Lithuanian head of diplomacy plans to deliver a national statement on issues relevant to Europe and Southeast Asia.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Budrys will hold bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of Brunei Darussalam, Laos, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Malaysia.

The EU's dialogue with ASEAN started in 1977. Six years ago, it took the strategic partnership to a higher level.

In terms of trade volumes, ASEAN countries rank third among the EU's trading partners. Trade, investment, digital, and green transformation are at the heart of the European partnership with the region.

Lithuania sees cooperation with the countries of the Southeast Asian region, using the opportunities provided by EU programmes, as capable of opening up new potential for our state's business and higher education.
