May 14 Declared IgA Nephropathy Awareness Day

The Board of Supervisors passed a resolution recognizing May 14, 2025, as IgA Nephropathy Awareness Day in the Township.

Residents Byron and Melissa Wade attended the meeting to discuss IgA Nephropathy, also known as IgAN or Berger's disease - a rare autoimmune condition that specifically targets the kidneys. There is currently no cure for IgAN. Byron was diagnosed with this disease.

The resolution notes that transplants can greatly improve patients' quality of life but do not guarantee that the disease won't return and infect the new kidney. They are not a cure because patients must take medications to suppress the immune system. However, over a dozen clinical trials and several newly approved treatments are underway.
