STATEMENT: Senator Blunt Rochester Releases Statement on the State of the Union

Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.) released the following statement on President Trump's State of the Union Address:

"The American people will never be able to get those two hours of lies and misinformation back. President Trump distorted the state of our union and did not give any direction for a prosperous, united America as we approach our 250th anniversary. He claimed that America is growing 'bigger, better, richer, and stronger than ever.' This couldn't be further from the truth - instead of America 'being back,' it feels like we are headed backwards.

"The President described an America that working families don't recognize. He said prices have gone down, while Americans are still choosing between making their rent and buying groceries or paying their healthcare premiums. He said that he is the president of peace, while he draws us closer to war. He said that our country is safer, while ICE agents are deployed into communities in ways that spread fear instead of promoting safety.

"Let me be clear: the only thing this President has done is lead with fear and sow chaos and confusion. He needs to start answering to the people, not the powerful."
