On 24 July, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas and Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs Ma. Teresa Lazaro signed a joint statement for the upgrade of the EU-Philippines relations, now elevated to an Enhanced Partnership.
The upgrade will foster additional cooperation on foreign affairs and security issues, good governance, rule of law, human rights, intensification of the cooperation on climate change, green transition, digital under the Global Gateway Strategy, as well as promoting people-to-people exchanges.
