The Kosovo Journey of The Glass Room – Misinformation Exhibition Edition

Across the Balkans, as in many parts of the world, digital and AI-driven technologies have dramatically impacted information ecosystems, leaving societies and democracies vulnerable to misinformation and political polarisation. The European Union and the European Houses across the Western Balkans have played a crucial role in creating spaces that empower people, decision makers, media, and other civil society organisations to counter these effects.

"Across Europe and the world, we all encounter a common challenge, how to safeguard our societies from misinformation, disinformation and information manipulation," said Airo Orav, EU Ambassador in Kosovo, at the launching event of The Glass Room: Misinformation Edition Exhibition in Pristina. His remarks reflected the EU's long-term commitment to supporting initiatives that equip citizens with the tools to identify and combat misinformation.

Supporting the Kosovo tour of the Glass Room- Misinformation Exhibition Edition was concrete step in turning this commitment into action.

From libraries, schools, and civil society organisations in over seventy countries worldwide, The Glass Room - Misinformation Exhibition Edition, with the EU support, made its way to Kosovo stopping in Pristina, Podujevë/Podujevo, Mitrovica North, Gračanica/Graçanicë, and Gjakova/Djakovica from October to December 2025.

Through a carefully curated series of posters, interactive applications, and animations, visitors were invited to explore what misinformation is, how it is spread, and why it is so persuasive. The exhibition showed how misleading content can shape opinions, influence our emotions, and affect our decisions. It also highlighted a less obvious truth: that everyday online actions, such as clicks, likes, and shares, play a powerful role in amplifying false or distorted information.

The exhibition tour was accompanied by interactive capacity-building workshops held in each host town and delivered by Kreshnik Gashi and Darko Dimitrijević. One such workshop, Demystifying Your Data - Facts vs. Feelings: Keep Calm and Spot the Design Trick led by Kosovo Media Education Expert, Kreshnik Gashi, at Europe House in Pristina, explored topics such as the risks of deepfakes, algorithmic bias, and the impact of digital design on public opinion. Participants also gained particular guidance on verifying sources and protecting personal privacy online. Similar sessions took place in all the towns where the exhibition toured across Kosovo.

Reflecting on the importance of local collaboration, Tactical Tech's Sheila Njeri for Europe House Kosovo said, "The EU's support is critical in reaching both local communities and key decision makers, helping create space for discussion around media literacy, disinformation, democracy, and civic activism, as well as the role of media today."

Building on the experience and impact of the Misinformation Exhibition Edition, the initiative will continue in Kosovo with The Glass Room: The Digital World - Your Personal Data Trap. This next exhibition will once again open its doors to communities, inviting them to explore another critical dimension of the digital world and deepen their understanding of how everyday online interaction shape personal data and privacy.

Together, the two editions of The Glass Room exhibition form a connected journey, linking misinformation, personal data, and digital power. By combining exhibitions, local partnerships, and hands-on learning, this EU supported initiative continues to strengthen communities' ability to engage critically and responsibly with today's digital environment.
