WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today,Congresswoman Andrea Salinas (OR-06) released the following statement calling for Congressman Eric Swalwell to resign in response to the allegations against him.
"Congressman Swalwell must resign. The allegations against him are serious, credible, and demand accountability.
"Protecting the integrity of the House also means protecting the staff who keep it running. As a former staffer, I understand the pressures of that environment and the responsibility leaders have to ensure it is safe and professional. No woman should have to choose between her career and coming forward with allegations of abuse. Fear of retaliation or blacklisting has no place in Congress.
"These cases lay bare a deeper failure: Congress lacks the mechanisms needed to address and prevent misconduct within its own ranks. That is unacceptable. The halls of power must not be a place where predators are shielded by inaction.
"Accountability is not optional. It is essential."
