Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Maxie Johnson to Announce Major Investments for District 4
DALLAS - Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Maxie Johnson will hold a press conference on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. to announce a new partnership with Volunteers of America Texas, through which $2 million in Tax Increment Financing (TIF) funding has been identified to support critical home repairs for qualifying District 4 homeowners. This investment will help improve housing conditions, allow residents to safely remain in their homes, preserve existing neighborhoods, and strengthen communities throughout District 4. Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Johnson has worked with the City of Dallas Housing Department to identify an additional $300,000 to assist homeowners who had previously been approved for home repairs, but whose projects were never completed after former contractors failed to perform the work.
The City of Dallas Housing Department will work to confirm eligibility. This additional funding will allow those long-delayed home repairs to move forward, ensuring these residents finally receive the assistance they were promised. Additionally, Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Johnson will announce that $4 million has been secured for the historic 10th Street community. These funds will be used for critical infrastructure improvements, including streets, sidewalks, and lighting, helping improve safety, accessibility, and the overall quality of life for residents.
"District 4 deserves investment, not neglect," said Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Maxie Johnson. "We are delivering real results by bringing resources directly into our neighborhoods. Through our partnership with Volunteers of America Texas, we have identified $2 million in TIF funding to expand home repairs for District 4 homeowners, secured an additional $300,000 to complete repairs for residents who were left behind after contractors failed to finish their work, and located $4 million to make critical infrastructure improvements in the historic 10th Street community. I want to thank the City of Dallas Housing Department, Volunteers of America Texas, and all of our partners for working with us to make these investments possible. Together, we are continuing to build the community with the community."
