Redwood City - Do you ever wonder where your local tax dollars go or what your local government actually does? A new video podcast from the County of San Mateo takes you behind the scenes to meet the people who make it all work.
Launching today, "Open Mike" is a monthly audio and video podcast hosted by County Executive Mike Callagy explores how local government works, connecting the dots between the services, programs and resources and people they serve.
"I want to shine a light on the amazing people behind the work we do and help the public understand more about their own local government," Callagy said. "The County has such a vast array of programs and departments that I bet many residents may not even know about. This podcast is an effort to really highlight the breadth of what the County touches."
In the first episode, Callagy sits down with Parks Director Nicholas Calderon at Edgewood Park to talk about how County parks are evolving, from redwoods to pickleball courts, pumptracks, playgrounds and more. Future episodes will be recorded on location and inside the County production studio.
