Reps. McClain Delaney & Obernolte, Led Bipartisan Letter to the Department of State, Department of Commerce, and Federal Communications Commission Requesting Update on U.S.[...]

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Last week, Representatives April McClain Delaney (MD-06) and Jay Obernolte (CA-23) led a bipartisan letter, joined by 17 House colleagues, requesting that the Department of State, Department of Commerce, and Federal Communications Commission provide Congress with a written update on U.S. strategy for the 2027 World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-27), including how agencies are coordinating, structuring leadership, and engaging internationally to protect U.S. spectrum priorities.

The letter, sent to Under Secretary of State Jacob Helberg, NTIA Administrator Arielle Roth, and FCC Chairman Brendan Carr, highlights the significance of the decisions that will be made at WRC-27, which will be hosted in Shanghai, China. It underscores the importance of preserving global momentum for unlicensed 6 GHz access, a critical driver of U.S. innovation, Wi-Fi leadership, and long-term economic competitiveness, as the PRC and aligned countries push to redefine global spectrum standards.

"As other nations, including the People's Republic of China, work to shape global spectrum policy, the United States must lead-not react. Strong coordination across our federal agencies and close collaboration with our allies are essential to protecting American innovation, strengthening our economic competitiveness, and ensuring the technologies that power our homes, businesses, and communities continue to be built on U.S. leadership," said Congresswoman April McClain Delaney.
