Fall commencement celebrates over 2,500 graduates

Lamar University held its fall commencement ceremony in the Neches Federal Credit Union Arena at the Montage Center on Friday, December 12 recognizing the achievements of its graduates, and conferring over 2,500 degrees.

"Our 2,577 graduates this weekend come from 23 countries outside of the United States, 40 states other than Texas, and 420 cities and towns in Texas," Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Brett Welch said. "This commencement at Lamar University will graduate students from Groves to Germany; from Kountze to Kenya; from Texas City to Taiwan."

Lamar University President Jaime Taylor emphasized the importance of not only hard work, but the ability to try again.

"A 'can-do' spirit drives us to believe in our abilities and to not be afraid of long hours of hard work. But today, I really want to focus on the power of an 'undo' attitude," Taylor said. "'Can-do' means 'I can make this happen'. 'Undo' means that 'if it doesn't work, I can try something else'. 'Can-do' is about trying your best with confidence and determination. 'Undo' is about being creative and adaptable. You need both to be successful."

He concluded with words of encouragement, urging students to meet the future with courage and curiosity.

"As you leave today, I wish you lots of success. But even more, I hope you learn how to use challenges and mistakes to make awesome things happen," Taylor said. "Embrace the journey ahead with open minds and fearless hearts."

The fall 2025 graduating class includes students from a broad range of disciplines and degree programs, reflecting the university's diverse academic offerings, commitment to excellence, and dedication to continuous learning.
