Leadership, urgency, and commitment to U.S. citizenship

Last week, members of the NALEO Educational Fund staff were honored to take part in the National Naturalization Practitioners' Conference in Montebello, CA, a vital convening of leaders from across the country who are working tirelessly to help eligible lawful permanent residents (LPRs) realize their dream of attaining U.S. citizenship.

For us, this is more than a conference. It's a continuation of a commitment we've upheld for decades.

From our early work supporting beneficiaries of the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) of 1986, to the launch of our Ya es Hora ¡CIUDADANÍA! campaign, and our role in helping establish the New Americans Campaign (NAC) in 2011, NALEO Educational Fund has remained at the forefront of the movement to ensure that eligible LPRs can fully embrace the opportunities conferred by U.S. citizenship.

Today, we continue shaping the NAC's strategic direction by serving as campaign site leaders in Los Angeles, Houston, and New York City - and working to stop harmful policies that would delay or deny eligible LPRs their chance at U.S. citizenship. We believe that applying for U.S. citizenship is not just a legal process, but the foundation of civic participation.

Additionally, the workshop model we developed in the 1980s remains a key strategy for helping eligible residents apply for U.S. citizenship efficiently and successfully.
