Wyoming Army National Guard opens new fire station complex at Camp Guernsey

GUERNSEY, Wyo. - The Wyoming Army National Guard marked the completion of a new fire station complex at Camp Guernsey Joint Training Center during a ribbon-cutting ceremony held Tuesday, Sept. 29, adding modern emergency response and aviation facilities designed to support training and operations at the installation.

The project includes a new fire station, Army aviation operations building and air traffic control tower. Together, the facilities will improve emergency response capabilities and provide updated spaces for firefighters, aviation personnel and service members training at Camp Guernsey.

"This facility represents a significant investment in the people who serve and train at Camp Guernsey," said Lt. Col. Michael Kingman, construction and facilities management officer for the Wyoming Army National Guard. "It gives our firefighters and aviation personnel the facilities they need to safely and effectively support the mission."

The new 29,448-square-foot fire station includes eight apparatus bays, eight dormitory rooms, a residential kitchen, physical fitness room, day room, administrative offices and classroom space.

The facility allows Camp Guernsey firefighters to house emergency response vehicles indoors and provides living quarters in the same building as their equipment. The configuration is intended to reduce emergency response times while giving firefighters improved space for training, equipment and daily operations.

The project also includes an Army aviation operations building and air traffic control tower. The 6,000-square-footoperations building provides office, training and flight-planning space for aviation operations. The four-story, 7,446-square-foot air traffic control tower provides controllers visibility of the airfield and runway.

The facilities expand Camp Guernsey's ability to support emergency services, aviation operations and military training while replacing or improving infrastructure used by personnel who support the installation's state and federal missions.

Maj. Gen. Gregory Porter, Wyoming's adjutant general, joined Wyoming National Guard personnel, local leaders and members of the project's design and construction teams for the ceremony. "This is more than a building-it is an investment in the men and women who make our mission happen every day. Facilities like this enable our force to train effectively, sustain readiness, respond faster, and enhance the lethality required to meet tomorrow's challenges," said Porter.

The project represents years of planning and coordination among the Wyoming Army National Guard's Construction and Facilities Management Office, Camp Guernsey personnel, contractors and community partners.

Following the ribbon-cutting, attendees were invited to tour the new facilities.

Camp Guernsey Joint Training Center provides training areas and facilities supporting Wyoming National Guard units and other military organizations. The installation also maintains capabilities that support emergency response and other state and federal missions.
