Macomb County has long been home to nass controls, a global supplier of electromagnetic components serving customers across North, Central and South America, as well as Australia. Based in New Baltimore, the company is part of the nass magnet group and works closely with sister operations in India, Germany, Hungary and China to deliver compact, high-quality electromagnetic solutions.

Now, nass controls is strengthening its local operation through a $2.6 million expansion that is expected to create five jobs. Central to the project is the reshoring of injection molding capabilities previously handled in Hungary. Bringing this production to Macomb County will allow the company to manufacture components closer to its North American customers, improve production control and reduce its reliance on extended international supply chains.

Macomb County Planning and Economic Development connected nass controls with the Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center to explore grant opportunities and introduced the company to additional resources, including the Michigan Economic Development Corporation's MI-STEP program. With grant support, the company purchased a new injection molding machine and is integrating it with its ERP system to improve job tracking, scheduling and production visibility.

The company is also creating an advanced automated work cell incorporating collaborative robots, vision systems, gantry-style robots and other technologies designed to improve efficiency, consistency and output. The project demonstrates how targeted support can help established Macomb County manufacturers reshore critical capabilities, modernize their operations and remain competitive in the global marketplace.
